CBSE Previous Year Question Papers Class 10 with Solutions

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts a national level examination, also known as the Board Examination (BE), every year. The Board Examination is a general certificate of secondary education (GCSE) equivalent exam. The following article will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the structure and the format of the exam as well as help you to practice for the upcoming Board Examination.

General Structure Of The Board Examination

The structure of the Board Examination is quite similar to that of the other Cambridge Exams. The only difference is that there are no specific writing tasks in the Board Examination. Instead, you will be presented with a variety of questions in different subject areas. Additionally, you will need to select the most appropriate answer for each question.

Each paper is organized into multiple-choice questions that you will need to answer. There are four sections per paper and each section has 40 questions. You will therefore need to answer a total of 160 questions in order to get a pass. Each question is worth one mark and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

The duration of the exam is two hours and twenty minutes. The first section of the test is mandatory and the other sections are for added flexibility. On the day of the test, you will be given 120 minutes to complete the practical part and you must leave an additional 20 minutes at the end to sign the test certificate and receive your score.

Papers You Will Need To Study

The following list includes the English, Mathematics, and Science papers that you will need to study for the Board Examination. You can use these papers as references when preparing for the exam. Each paper's link will take you to the PDF copy of the same.

  • English (Paper 1): Here you will need to study English Grammar, Language and Usage. As we have already established, the Board Examination does not have any specific writing tasks, but this does not mean that you should not prepare for the same. By learning English grammar and language structures, you will become a better writer and able to express yourself more effectively in English. The course will also help you improve your vocabulary and appreciate the nuances of English usage. Additionally, you will learn about different sentence structures and how to use them appropriately.

  • Mathematics (Paper 2): One of the most popular papers among students, this one is quite easy to prepare for since it is mostly about arithmetic. Arithmetic is all about adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing and you will need to be familiar with these terms and their properties. Additionally, you will need to know how to multiply and divide fractions and decimals, how to work with whole numbers, and how to use your calculator. All of these tasks will prepare you for the Board Examination and allow you to score well.

  • Science (Paper 3): The third paper on this list is a science paper and it tests your understanding of basic scientific principles such as matter and energy, chemical reactions and interactions, and the forces of nature. Here, too, you will need to learn about the basics of chemistry, physics, and biology, as well as their interactions. You will need to be familiar with the periodic table and know how to use it appropriately. Additionally, you will need to learn about the basics of genetics and be able to give it its correct interpretation. This paper is going to test your understanding of basic concepts in science, not your application of these concepts, so make sure you have studied accordingly.

  • Physics (Paper 4): Like the other three papers on this list, the fourth paper on this list is also a science paper and it tests your understanding of basic scientific principles such as matter and energy, chemical reactions and interactions, and the forces of nature. Additionally, you will need to learn about the basics of astronomy, motion, and forces, as well as how they all interact. You will need to know your units of measure and how to convert between them. For example, when converting measurements between meters and inches, you will need to know that one inch = 2.54 centimeters and one meter = 100 centimeters.

Format Of The Board Examination

Each section of the Board Examination is multiple-choice and after you have answered the questions in a given section, you will need to take a short break before you begin the next section. When taking a break, you will need to leave the electronic testing platform and go to a separate room where you will be able to study the answers. You will be given a fifteen minute break after every four sections, for a total of one hour and twenty minutes break between sections. This way, you will not burn out from studying too much and be able to score well on the exam.

While the exams for Class 9 and 12 are generally based on acquired knowledge, the Board Examination is more about your overall comprehension of the subject. For example, there are no specific science papers on the Board Examination – rather, you will need to demonstrate your understanding of the general concepts behind each paper. In order to prepare for the Board Examination, you should take a bit of a crash course on the subjects that you are not familiar with. This way, you will be able to fully grasp what is being tested and know how to approach the questions. Additionally, you can go back and review CBSE previous year question papers to see how you did and how much you missed during your absence. This will help you determine where you need to study and what you need to review. If you want to study for the Board Examination, make sure to set aside adequate amounts of time and do not cram beforehand.
